Coffee beans have long been sorted into different categories, determined by various parameters. However, the most important distinction of them all is the type of plant that they come from. There are two prime contenders in this arena: Arabica and Robusta. Arabica coffee beans are highly regarded for their low caffeine content, delicious aroma, and delightful taste, whereas Robusta beans contain higher levels of caffeine and are considered to be a lesser quality bean.
Outside these two standard categories, there exist Liberica and Excelsa coffee plants. Liberica mainly produces coffee beans in the Philippines, descending from an arabica plant originally found in Central Africa. Excelsa is another member of the Liberica family that offers a unique flavor with significant fruity tones.
