Record Numbers of Expats are Choosing to File US Taxes

While US expats have always been required to file US taxes from abroad, most didn’t used to, as the IRS had no way of knowing which expats should be filing. Over the last few years though, foreign banks and governments have begun to provide the IRS with financial information about their American account holders. As a result, more and more expats are now filing US taxes, catching up using the Streamlined Procedure IRS amnesty program.
